The G3A3 type is a 7.62mm caliber German-made automatic rifle that was officially adopted by the former West German Army in 1959. It has a mechanism that uses the firing recoil to load the next bullet -- a rare feature for an assault rifle -- which is said to have higher accuracy than a standard rifle which uses firing gas to load the next bullet. This mechanism was inherited by the later high-precision masterpiece SMG MP5. The G3 was highly evaluated during the Cold War, and has been adopted by 48 countries around the world, including NATO member countries. Licensed and produced in 14 countries, it became so popular that it was called one of the four major assault rifles. As a derivative type, there are various models such as the A4 type with a metal telescopic stock, and the SG-1 type, which is a highly accurate sniper rifle.
This "Little Armory" model kit from Tomytec reproduces the fixed-stock A3 type of G3. Selectable carrying handles, bayonets, and rail mounts are included, as is a Z51 type night-vision scope used by the West German army.
